Mugnos bezeichnet dies als eine sehr klare spanische Familie aus Frankreich. Ein katalanischer Gentleman von Giovanni Ascenso reiste 1283 als erster mit der Ladung des Kellners des Säuglings Federico nach Sizilien. 1501 erhielt er die Kastellanie von Naro und vielen Gebieten.
