Una delle nobilissine famiglie, che uscirono dall'Isola d'Ischia, fu quella degli Assanti. Pietro fu Ciambellano, e del Consiglio di Re Carlo II e per il governatore, e Capitan Generale della Calabria, e dell'Abruzzo. Nel medesimo tempo vivea di questa casa Tomaso Figliuolo di Giorgio: e contra di cui si querelano Gaita, e Angiolina Salvacossa pur da Ischia, d'essere stato esso Tomaso uccisore di Petronello Cossa lor fratello. Dalla quale scrittura chiaramente si cava i Salvacossi, e i Cossi esser una cosa stessa. Sotto il medesimo Re Carlo II trovasi memoria di Francesco, e di Giovanni, fratelli piú tosto, che figlioli di Pietro Francesco detto di Napoli insieme con Paolo Sperella, Atenapo Fabiano, Benuto Casillo, Martuccio di Napoli, Paolo di Bernardo, Bartolomeo Scota, Tomaso Ronco, e Simone Moscatucci Napolitani essendone stati mandati con un Galione a pigliar lingua di nemici l'anno 1294 diedero ad essi in mano, e ne furono
