Antica famiglia originaria di Cava decorata il 16 dic. 1724 del titolo di Marchese di Castelnuovo nella persona di Nicola. Ha posseduto anche le Baronie di Massanova ed Isola di Agropoli. Da Nicola successero in linea diretta: Fulvio, dec. 1765; Flaminio, dec. 1785 e Pasquale ultimo intestatario del feudo suddetto. Il figlio di Pasquale, Fulvio, ottenne con R. Rescritto del 15 febbraio 1841 il riconoscimento dell'anzidetto titolo, passato al figlio Pasquale, alla cui morte, avvenuta nel 1898, è succeduta la sorella Chiara ved. del comm. Giuseppe Talamo, Consigliere di Cassazione, e madre del Comm. Roberto Talamo già deputato al Parlamento Nazionale. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Uff. Nob. Ital. del 1922 col titolo di Marchese di Castelnuovo (mpr.), in persona di: Chiara, di Fulvio, di Paquale in Talamo.
