Antichissima ed illustre famiglia parlamentare friulana, che dal nativo castello di Attimis si diramò in Italia ed in Austria in molteplici linee distinte fra loro dal nome dei diversi feudi e domini. Sembra accertato che capostipite di essa sia un Enrico che nel 1170 addì 2 febbraio viene col fratello Arpone donato da Wodalrico, marchese di Toscana, quale suo ministeriale dinesmatinno al Patriarca Woldarico di Aquileia e da questo, nello stesso anno, investito del castello di Attems o Attimis. Le linee principali di questa numerosissima famiglia sono quelle degli Attimis dell'Orso; quella dei Brandis, quella degli Attimis detti di Cividale (estinta), quella degli Attimis detti di Udine, quella degli Atems di S. Croce ed infine quella di Petzenstein. Ermanno di Girolamo, consigliere e maggiordomo di Rodolfo II, acquistò nel 1605 la signoria di S.
