Uma família nativa muito antiga e nobre da Provença, que se espalhou na Sicília desde o século XIV e, nos séculos seguintes, em diferentes regiões da Itália. A cognominação, antes do século XII, originalmente Authier ou Authieri, provavelmente derivada do nome germânico Autierius, chega a nós Autieri devido a erros de transcrição ou inflexões dialetais. Essa família foi reconhecida em sua nobreza com base em evidências de 1674, oficializadas com um decreto real de 1708.
