Lignée ancienne et très noble du royaume de Naples, répartie au cours des siècles dans différentes régions d'Italie. La famille est originaire de Raito, une ville de la municipalité de Vietri sul Mare sur la côte amalfitaine. L'ancêtre serait un certain Pietro, fils de Giuseppe, florissant à la fin du XVIIe siècle. À Raito, la famille avait les principaux honneurs, atteignant ses membres pour être mentionnés, dans les documents officiels et paroissiaux, avec les appellations de "Magnifico / a" et "don / donna". La noblesse de la famille, en tout cas, descend d'un Vincenzo qui, par la succession de son père Mariano, fut investi du fief de Mariglianella le 26 avril 1788.
