Famiglia siciliana e precisamente di Messina. Antonio Averardi si segnalò nel 1743 nella pestilenza che afflisse la sua città, sostenne le cariche di giudice della R. Udienza, delle Appellazioni, della Gran Corte e di Ministro della R. Azienda e, nei terribili terremoti del 783, tanto si rese benemerito da meritarsi il titolo di padre della patria. Per le sue benemerenze re Ferdinando IV, con privilegio del 1788, lo decorò del titolo di marchese (mpr.). L'ultima discendente di questa casa fu Giuseppa Maria che sposò Giacomo Loteta al quale passò il titolo di marchese. La famiglia è iscritta genericamente nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano del 1922 col titolo di marchese (mpr.), in persona dei discendenti da Antonino, ultimo investito il 16 marzo 1812. Altro ramo. Originaria di Tocello, si spense nel 1340 con messer Vedardo Averardi, che era stato aggregato al Gran Consiglio nel 1312. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile
