Noblesse d'Auvergne, comprise au ban de 1543. En tenant compte des variantes linguistiques et de tradition présentes dans la langue, on peut rattacher ce nom à une ancienne et remarquable maison, connue depuis le début du XIVème siècle. Il est fait mention de cette famille dans plusieurs titres et ouvrages publics. On cite quelques personnages dignes de mémoire: deux chanoines-comtes de Brioude (1350-1470); des hommes d'armes et capitaines châtelains. Athine du Bosc dame de St-Préjet-d'Allier épousa en 1481, noble Louis Gauthier damoiseau, de la ville d'Annonay, veuf et père d'un fils nommé Robinet Gauthier damoiseau, auquel la dame de St-Préjet sa belle-mère légua tous ses biens en 1481. Jacques et Gabriel, ce dernier père de Louis, sont dits habitant près de St-Romain en 1540. Cette famille s'est éteinte au XVIIème siècle et a eu plusieurs nobles alliances: d'Aurelle, de Peuchaud, Poble du Pinet, de Cheminades de Lormet.
