Riteniamo che le prime notizie di questa famiglia pervengano da un'antica pergamena sottrattasi inopinatamente a distruzioni ed incendi: si tratta di un elenco che il Montemerlo riproduce nella "Storia di Tortona" relativo alle più antiche e nobili famiglie Tortonesi viventi nel 1140 fra le quali è compresa quella dei Bachiorri. Non si ha notizia ove li Bachiorri si siano rifugiati durante le due distruzioni della città del 1155 e 1163 e nella quale riappaiono alla vita pubblica dopo oltre mezzo secolo all'inizio del 1200. Più autori ci informano però che in quest'intervallo Guglielmo Bachiorri, uomo santo e pio era Abate nel 1158 (e non nel 1084 come ripetutamente affermano il Carnevale nella sua "Storia della Diocesi di Tortona" ed in "Uomini Illustri Tortonesi" nonchè il Salice negli Annali) dell'abbazia di S. Alberto di Butrio, situata sulla cresta di un'altra ed ampia valle dei gioghi appennini. In detto anno egli acquistava
