Família nobre de Portugal, que uns autores dizem ser a mesma dos Barros e outros a fazem diversa. Por se desconhecer, presentemente, a sua origem nada se pode afirmar a tal respeito. As palavras Bairros andam muito confundidas na linguagem antiga, se é que não têm o mesmo significado. O apelido Bairrois, que se encontra acompanhado da preposição de, mostra ser de origem geográfica, o que também acontece ao de Barros, ambos formas de muitas provoações portuguesas. Figuram no Livro do Armeiro-mor as duas grafias, correspondendo-lhes armas diferentes. Aos B. cabem as seguintes armas: De ouro, com três troncos esgalhados de sua cor, soltos e postos em três bandas. Timbre: os três troncos do escudo, enfeixados e atados de ouro. Alguns Barreiros usam as mesmas, armas, certamente pela confusão existente entre Bairros e Barros, se eram famílias diversas, ou, se as duas vozes correspondiam a uma só pela ignorância do brasão que competia ao seu nome .
