Famiglia assai antica e nobile, il cui capo stipite fu un Pace Baldassini che visse nel 950 e lasciò fama di valoroso soldato, ed il nipote Baldassino Baldassini, di Bernardino, ebbe fama anche egli di valoroso per aver militato al servizio del Barbarossa circa l'anno 1162. Questa famiglia è originaria di Gubbio ove esiste tuttora una contrada detta via Baldassini. Nei ricordi dei tempi andati si leggono alcune varianti di questo cognome, dovute alle solite cause della fonetica storica e dal modo di interpretare nella scritturazione i cognomi. I Baldassini, Baldassino, Baldassin e Baldassi sono tutti rami di un unico ceppo. All'epoca delle fazioni questa famiglia si divise in più rami, uno andò a Sinigallia, un altro in Germania e un altro ancora, in Veneto. In Sinigallia i Conti Giov. Francesco, e Alessandro si resero commendevoli per perizia militare; Giovanni Battista e Bernardo si resero illustri nella Prelatura. In
