Sie gehören zu den Este-Feudalherren mit einem Komitaltitel. Der Historiker und Forscher Gozzadini in seiner "Delle Torri Gentilizie di Bologna und der Adelsfamilien, zu denen sie gehörten", gedruckt 1875 in Bologna bei Zannichelli.
