Originaria di Firenze, ebbe per capo-stipite Corso delgi Aldimari, il quale fu podestà di Gubbio nel 1255 e vi stabilì la propria famiglia che in origine si chiamò dello Straneo o Stranei. Matteo dello Straneo, figlio o nipote del suddetto Corso, nel 1326, fu investito della dignità di priori della Cattedrale. In principi del secolo XV i fratelli Baldinaccio e Galeazzo, originarono le due illustri famiglie de'Baldinacci e de' Galeazzi. Il primo nel 1408 fu secondo console del Comune di Gubbio. Da quell'anno fino al secolo XVIII le dinastie occuparono le cariche più eminenti della città, e si estinsero nei Fabiani. Sono celebri i sette fratelli, vissuti nel XVI secolo e chiamati i paladini di Gubbio per le molte prove di valore date essendo capitani nei vari eserciti che in quell'epoca si contrastavano il dominio d'Italia.
