On trouve dès le commencemen du XVIème siècle cette famille au Bas-Languedoc où elle est encore représentée. Jean, seigneur de Beaufort, major de la ville de Sarras avait prouvé sa noblesse devant les élus d'Artois, le 10 octobre 1665, et justifié sa filiation depuis: Jacques, écuyer, marié à Arnaude de Barthélemy. L. de La Roque commence la génèalogie de cette maison à ce personnage vivant au commencemnt du XVIème siècle et termine au IXème degré par Jean-Louis, écuyer, marié à demoiselle marie-magdeleine Bosc, dont 1° Antoine, marié, le 31 janvier 1837, à Jeanne-Caroline de Porcellet; 2° Henri, marié, le 3 juin 1845, à Françoise-Elisabeth Sautel dont plusieurs enfants, etc. Un membre de cette famille vint se fixer au Bourg-Saint-Andèol et y fit souche. Elle prit part à l'assemblée de la noblesse de la sénéchaussée de Montpellier, pour l'élection des députés aux états-généraux de 1789.
