Antichissima famiglia discendente da BOEMONDO d’Altavilla (1050 ca. – 1111), figlio di ROBERTO il Guiscardo, duca di Normandia, Puglia, Calabria e Sicilia (riconosciuto tale da Papa Nicolò II nel Concilio di Melfi del 1059), e Alberada di Buonalbergo, che dopo aver conquistato Antiochia ne diventa Principe con il nome di Boemondo I, dando così origine a questo ramo degli Hauteville. Attraverso COSTANZA d’Antiochia, figlia di BOEMONDO II (1109-1131) e di Alice di Gerusalemme, nipote di Boemondo I e Costanza di Francia, reggente del Principato dal 1130 alla sua morte, sposando Raimondo di Poitiers, la dinastia prosegue con BOEMONDO III (1144-1201), il quale, sposando in prime nozze Orgigliosa di Harenc, genera BOEMONDO IV, conte di Tripoli. Dal matrimonio di quest’ultimo con Plaissance de Gibellet si arriva a MARIA (alias Mathilde) di Antiochia che sposa Federico II di Svevia, divenendone la sua quarta moglie (Bartolomeo da Neocastro e R.
