Sehr alte Familie, abstammend von BOEMONDO d'Altavilla (ca. 1050 – 1111), Sohn von ROBERTO il Guiscardo, Herzog der Normandie, Apulien, Kalabrien und Sizilien (als solcher von Papst Nicolò II im Konzil von Melfi von 1059 anerkannt) und Alberada di Buonalbergo , die nach der Eroberung von Antiochia Prinz mit dem Namen Bohemund I wird und so diesen Zweig der Hautevilles hervorbringt. Durch KONSTANZ von Antiochia, Tochter von BOHEMOND II (1109-1131) und Alice von Jerusalem, Enkelin von Bohemund I und Konstanz von Frankreich, Regentin des Fürstentums von 1130 bis zu ihrem Tod, heiratete sie Raymond von Poitiers, die Dynastie wird mit BOHEMOND III ( 1144-1201), der durch die Heirat mit Orgigliosa von Harenc in seiner ersten Ehe BOHEMOND IV, Graf von Tripolis, hervorbringt. Aus der Ehe des letzteren mit Plaissance de Gibellet gelangen wir zu MARIA (alias Mathilde) von Antiochien, die Friedrich II. von Schwaben heiratet und seine vierte Frau wird
