Família muito antiga descendente de BOEMONDO d'Altavilla (c. 1050 – 1111), filho de ROBERTO il Guiscardo, duque da Normandia, Apúlia, Calábria e Sicília (reconhecido como tal pelo Papa Nicolau II no Concílio de Melfi de 1059), e Alberada di Buonalbergo , que depois de ter conquistado Antioquia torna-se seu príncipe com o nome de Bohemond I, dando origem a este ramo dos Hautevilles. Através de CONSTÂNCIA de Antioquia, filha de BOHEMOND II (1109-1131) e Alice de Jerusalém, neta de Bohemond I e Constança da França, regente do Principado de 1130 até sua morte, casando-se com Raymond de Poitiers, a dinastia continua com BOHEMOND III ( 1144-1201), que, casando-se com Orgigliosa de Harenc em seu primeiro casamento, gera BOHEMOND IV, conde de Trípoli. Do casamento deste com Plaissance de Gibellet chegamos a MARIA (também conhecida como Mathilde) de Antioquia que se casa com Frederico II da Suábia, tornando-se sua quarta esposa
