Chiara ed antica, famiglia, che da varii autori si ritiene una diramazione della storica omonima famiglia di Parma, mentre altri dicono originaria napoletana. Comunque, di essa si trovano remote notizie in Napoli, dove fu ascritta ai Seggi di Capuana e di Montagna. Ebbe possesso di feudi, tra i quali Centola, Grisolia e Castelluccio, quest'ultimo con titolo di Duca. Passò all'Ordine di Malta nel 1539 con Guidone, che morì da valoroso all'assalto di Algeri nel 1541, e nel 1565 con Giovan Battista, che fu tra gli strenui difensori di Malta. Oltre a questi si ricordano, tra molti altri: Guido, giustiziere di terra di Bari e Capitanata nel 1500; Francesco, castellano di Cotrone nel 1404; Luca, maestro razionale della Gran Corte nel 1409; Fabio, valoroso cavaliere, sindaco nel 1566 della piazza di Montagna pel generale Parlamento celebratosi in Napoli, ecc.
