Famiglia, assai antica ed illustre, che venne aggregata al Maggior Consiglio di Brescia. La medesima ottenne la conferma della nobiltà con le sovrana risoluzione 8 dicembre 1818, I agosto e 10 dicembre 1819, 8 febbraio 1834 e 17 settembre 1835. E' iscritta nell'Elenco ufficiale col titolo di nobile, mf. La famiglia alzò per arma. Fasciato azzurro e d'argento di quattro pezzi, le due fascie d'azzurro caricate di tre triangoli di campo 2 e 1, col capo d'argento caricato da una bandiera di rosso, alla croce d'argento fluttuante a sinistra, attaccata ad un'asta d'oro posta in banda. Elmo: ornato di svolazzi e medaglia. Altro ramo. Dagli Opuscoli del Villabianca si rileva essere questa una famiglia di Nicosia, di cui commendasi un Gioacchino Barbera, giudice pretoriano in Palermo 1758. Un Salvatore la Barbera e Merelli della città di Monte San Giuliano venne, inoltre, con privilegio del settembre 1767, insignito del titolo
