Antichissima famiglia veneta, di chiara e provata virtù, detta Barbetti o Barbetta, della quale si ha memoria sin dal 1488, con un Giovanni, rettore della Chiesa di S. Lucia. Il casato fu elevato alla nobiltà, per gli ottimi servigi resi alla patria, uniti alle cospicue offerte fatte alla Repubblica, tanto che i suoi membri vennero ascritti alla veneta nobiltà. Molti furono, anche, personaggi, di questa casa, che sostennero le cariche di conservatori e consiglieri, in patria, e che si illustrarono nelle Scienze e nelle Lettere. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Carlo, padovano, del fu Egidio, dottore "in utroque jure", vivente nel 1521; Carlo, scrittore, che, nel 1647, diede alle stampe un opera musicale in cinque atti; Gio.
