Se originó en Trieste y pasó a Venecia con los Barbanos y Barbarigos. En otro tiempo obtuvo la dignidad de tribunicio. Inscritos en el consejo noble en 1297, se extinguieron en 1361. Muchas familias que vivían en Venecia pertenecían a la nobleza. En el Libro de Oro de la nobleza veneciana y en el Patricio veneciano tras la guerra de Candia y el Cierre del Consejo Mayor de 1646, hechos que dejaron fama inmortal por su gran sabiduría política y virtudes ciudadanas, encontramos a esta ilustre familia. Sobre la base de antiguas crónicas existentes en la Biblioteca Marciana, y en el Archivo del Estado, hasta ahora inéditas; y contrariamente a lo que publicó Freschot en su Nobiltà Veneta, los citados trabajos son imparciales en cuanto al origen de ciertas familias, asumido por el patriciado veneciano.
