Fin dalla prima metà del XIV secolo fioriva, in Locarno, questa nobile famiglia, di cui un Francesco, con atto 1 Nov. 1349, istituiva un jus padronato nella cappella di S. Antonio di Padova, alla collegiata di S. Vittore in Muralto. Tale famiglia fu sempre tra le prime del paese, ascritta alla corporazione dei Borghesi, esercitò lo jus padronato nella Collegiata, alla Madonna del Sasso, ed in S. Antonio. Tennero quasi sempre i Marcacci la carica di fiscale di Locarno, e furono confermati a podestà di Gambarogno e Verzasca. Dalla città di Soletta ottennero il titolo di patrizi e conferma di nobiltà nel 1665, dal Re Augusto III di Polonia, nel 1677 grado di barone e di ambasciatore presso gli Svizzeri. Un Giovanni-Antonio Barcacci, dopo vari impieghi onorifici sostenuti in patria, nel 1804 fu destinato incaricato d'affari per la Svizzera, in Milano presso quel governo, e proseguì in quell'ufficio anche presso
