Cette famille à reçu des lettres d'anoblissement de Henry IV, dans la personne de Guillaume, sieur de Fournies, homme d'armes de la compagnie de M. de la Force (de Caumont). Marié en premières noces avec damoiselle Marguerite de la Place, de fort bonne et noble maison, ledit Guillaume eut cinq garçons et quatre filles. L'ainé des fils fut juge de la Force; le second, capitaine dans le règiment de Navarre. En secondes noces, il épousa damoiselle de Melet, d'ont il n'eut pas d'enfants. Les lettres de la noblesse, datées de décembre 1604, mentionnent les services rendus pendant 45 ans, en plusieurs occasions, par Guillaume, habitant de la ville de Mussidan, entre autres à la bataille de Moncontour et au siège de Saint-Jean-d'Angély; il était de la religion prétendue réformée.
