Ancient house of French origin called Barlet, Barletti, Barletto or Barletta propagated over time in different regions of Italy with large settlements in Piedmont, Liguria and Tuscany. Another very ancient family in Calabria and originates from a certain Raone. Its members subsequently spread throughout the South and had luck under the Angevins: Philip was a Knight of Charles I of Anjou; Guglielmo was viceroy in Abruzzo, Giovanni Filippo, in 1338, was created captain general. In addition, the Barlettas are mentioned among the noble families of Arena in a document dated 1551. In 1569, in Borrello, the granettiere was D. Cesare Barletta; while, in 1712, the family was a patron of the Altar of S. Antonio Abate, in the Parish Church of S. Nicola.
