Une famille très ancienne d'origine française appelée Barlet, Barletti, Barletto ou Barletta s'est répandue, au fil du temps, dans différentes régions d'Italie avec des colonies remarquables dans le Piémont, la Ligurie et la Toscane. Une autre famille très ancienne en Calabre et issue d'un certain Raone. Ses membres, par la suite, se sont répandus dans tout le Sud et ont eu la chance sous les Angevins : Philippe était chevalier de Charles Ier d'Anjou ; Guglielmo était vice-roi des Abruzzes, Giovanni Filippo, en 1338, fut nommé capitaine général. De plus, les Barlettas sont mentionnés parmi les familles nobles d'Arena, dans un document daté de 1551. En 1569, à Borrello, le granettiere D. Cesare Barletta ; tandis que, en 1712, la famille est Giuspatrona de l'autel de S. Antonio Abate, dans l'église paroissiale de S. Nicola.
