Die ursprünglich aus der Toskana stammende Familie wurde dem Florentiner Patrizier zugeschrieben und gab der Republik Florenz zwei Gonfaloniere und fünf Priors. Nachdem sie sich in Ferrara niedergelassen hatte, ließ sie einige Gonfaloniere und verschiedene Charaktere in den Briefen und Wissenschaften auszeichnen. Gegen Mitte des Jahrhunderts wurde es vom Herzog von Parma Ranuccio Farnese mit dem Komitaltitel ausgezeichnet. XVII. Tatsächlich erkundigte sich Cosimo bei der Parma-Kammer nach der Gerichtsbarkeit einiger Villen, die im Lehen errichtet wurden. Mit Schreiben vom 24. Juli 1648 befahl der Herzog dem Magistrat der Parmakammer, die Gerichtsbarkeit der Villen von Panocchia, Asola und Corcognano an Cosimo di Ferrara zu verkaufen, wobei der Käufer verpflichtet war, sich und seine Nachkommen anzuerkennen legitime und natürliche Männer in unendlichem Lehen sagten Waren. Für diesen Verkauf, der am 27. Juli 1650 folgte und die Investitur anerkannt wurde, wurde das Lehen in der Grafschaft errichtet. Mit Umschreibung von 5 Wochen. 1653,

Capostipite fu un Marco di Basilio Bartolini, nato nel 1456 a Firenze. La famiglia si trasferì nel XVII secolo a Stia, in Casentino.
