Família toscana antiga e muito nobre, com residência principal na cidade de Siena, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. A origem dessa cognominação, segundo os genealogistas competentes, deve ser procurada na terra de Batignano, município de Siena. De acordo com o que nos foi entregue, seu fundador foi Antonio, um famoso advogado e ilustre advogado, falecido em 15 de setembro de 1449.
