Antica ed assai nobile famiglia italiana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa e del mondo. Come riportato dal celebre genealogista italiano Giovan Battista di Crollalanza nel suo "Il Dizionario storico-blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti", pubblicato a Pisa nel 1886 in tre volumi, questa casata è originaria della città di Roma da donde poi si portò in Piemonte anteriormente al XV secolo. Sino al 1470 i Battaglione ebbero residenza in Feletto per poi trasferirsi in Ozegna. Ivi fiorì Gian Giacomo Battaglione, Mastro uditore nella Camera dei Conti nel 1584, il quale ebbe poi la cittadinanza torinese nel 1588. D'altronde tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che ne hanno reso illustre il nome, distintisi soprattutto come uomini di legge e di governo.
