Family of ancient and noble tradition, originally from Florence. Commendator G.B. di Crollalanza reports the blazon of this family in the volumes of his historical blazon dictionary of Italian noble and notable families. The surname Beccanugi appears after 1290, in place of Ammannati: the two surnames are also found united. In some examples of the coat of arms n.1, more than an illeonite leopard one could recognize a rampant panther. The family died out in the 16th century; in 1734 Bastiano and Benedetto Ammannati obtained from the Supreme Magistrate the recognition of the descent from the ancient family, with the possibility of assuming the two surnames. Subsequently their descendants Ammannato and Aldobrandino Beccanugi Ammannati were admitted to the Florentine nobility in 1805 and to the aristocracy in 1807, presenting the coat of arms n.2.
