Fioriva nel secolo XVI a Grognardo, in quel di Acqui. La storia tramanda che, alcuni personaggi di questa famiglia, salirono in onore di cariche civili e di signorie feudali, e li riattacca al gran ceppo della famiglia pavese dei Beccaria, che, dalla città ove ebbe a lungo primato politico e civile, diramò largamente, con numerose signorie, nei territori limitrofi del Ducato di Milano, del Monferrato e dell'Oltrepò pavese. E' noto che Acqui e il suo territorio fecero parte della signoria monferrina fino al secolo XVI. Nel secolo XVI fioriva a Grognardo, un Manfredi, richiamo e reminiscenza storica dei numerosi personaggi di questo nome del ramo pavese, padre di Domenico e di Lucia e fratello di Guglielmo.
