Anciennement Benoit, seigneurs de Plaigne paroisse de Félines, du Martinet paroisse de Monlet (Auvergne). Famille de robe qualifiè noble au XVIIème siècle. Bonne bourgeoisie de la Chaise-Dieu, mentionnée dès 1384. Deux branches: la cadette établie à Clermont-Ferrand au XVIème siècle a possédé les seigneuries de la Roche du Crest, de Chassignol, de Montgray. Elle a produit: Antoine receveur général des finances à Riom (1601). Armes de cette branche: d'azur, à trois pals d'or, au chef d'argent chargé de trois molettes de sable. Autre branche: on trouve un Pierre consul du Puy en 1219, père de Jean qui vend une terre en 1233 à l'abbaye de doue. Etienne, treizième abbé de Doue (1334-1340), transige en cette qualité en 1334. Pons est consul du Puy en 1430. Possessionnée au Monastier dès 1475. Noble Jacques seigneur de Bèthe et de Jolivet, 3ème consul du Puy (1641), devint capitaine-général de cette ville. Il épousa Marie Spert de Volhac d'où: 1° noble Jehan-Hugues écuyer, seigneur de Montbreuil, conseiller honoraire au sénéchal et siège présidial du Puy, qui fit inscrire en 1696 ses armoiries dans d'Hozier et s'allia le 18 octobre 1673 à Marie-Catherine de Brun de Lanthenas; 2° Anne mariée le 21 novembre 1671 à Mathieu de Morgues de St-Germain, prévôt des maréchaux de France au Puy.
