Sono i Berardi antichissimi Romani, come consta dall'Archivio di Santa Prassede dell'anno 1177, dell'anno 1200, dell'anno 1208 e dell'anno 1240. Il Monaldeschi nel suo diario del 1238 e seguenti riferisce molte prodezze in favore de' Colonnesi fatte da Berardo di Evangelista Corso; ove dimostra che questa famiglia ora viene chiamata de' Berardi, ora de' Evangelisti, ora de' Corsi, sendo la medesima, et il cognome del Corso ebbero dal Popolo Romano che gli diede il nome e l'arme di un cane corso saltante, pe la valentia come dice il Monaldeschi, e bravura dell'Evangelista dimostrata nel servizio del Popolo. Avevani li loro beni in Abruzzo e furono ne' tempi successivi valorosi soldati e capitani, come per molte autentiche scritture mostra il Capitan Francisco Capotio e la sua discendenza da dd. Berardi, come che nel Catasto del Salvatore si legge: Lellius Berardi de regione Transtiberium sepultus in Ecclesia S. Agathae.
