Alessandro, der 1583 starb, war Gouverneur der Garfagnana. Nachdem die Naselli in Graf Antonio ausgestorben waren, gab er das Erbe und den Nachnamen an die Familie Berettoni weiter, die ihres Landes hoch verdient waren. Der Titel des Grafen gehörte zu dieser Familie, ein Titel, der von den Kaisern zu denen erhoben wurde, die an ihrer Seite waren. Aus diesen Grafen wurden diejenigen ausgewählt, die dazu bestimmt waren, die Ämter des königlichen Palastes zu überwachen, und andere wurden an die Regierung der Provinzen des Reiches geschickt, um die Grenzen zu überschreiten. Dann gab es andere Konten, die den erwähnten Uffizien fremd waren, wie die der Annona zugewiesenen, um zu handeln; und auch die Aufseher der Armee hatten diesen Titel. In der Zeit der Goten wurde die Würde des Grafen von mehreren Beamten gewahrt; und die Langobarden sagten immer noch, ihre Gouverneure zählen oder Castaldi.
