Magistri Bartholomei cerdonis (artigiano) di Villa Verla abitava a Vicenza quando suo figlio Magistrato Franciscus pictore, il 17 dicembre 1499, si trovava in quel vescovado per tratta dei suoi interessi. Francescus Verlus de Vicentia, come si firmava nei dipinti, appresa l'arte pittoria da suo padre, si perfezionò nella scuola umbra; e nelle sue pitture lasciate a Schio (1512), a Trento (1515), a Sarcedo (1517), a Mori (1518) ed in altri luoghi, ariaggiano la maniera del Perugino. Altre opere di varia importanza gli sono semplicemente attribuite. In un manoscritto vicentino si legge che I V. pittori ed i nobili Verlato dicevano di essere della medesima famiglia. Alessandro (morto nel 1521?) era marito di Maria q. Giovanni Giacomo Cerdonis de Castronovo. Castelnuovo è un villagio nei dintorni di Villa V. ed è anche il nome di una famiglia che sedette nel consiglio nobile di Vicenza nel 1510. L'11 dicembre 1532 Maria
