Antigua y notable familia de Valmarecchia, nacida de la unión de dos familias: Bernardi y Fabbrani. En los albores del siglo XIX, la última descendiente de los Fabbrani fue de hecho a casarse con un Bernardi pidiendo a su marido poder combinar los dos apellidos para la descendencia. Los Bernardos son una familia noble boloñesa, dividida a lo largo del tiempo en muchas ramas, que tuvieron distinta suerte. Los exponentes de la rama original se distinguieron particularmente en el ejercicio de las profesiones jurídicas, aunque nunca vistieron la túnica senatorial. En cualquier caso, la clara nobleza de la familia se confirma aún más por su presencia en la valiosa obra "El diccionario histórico-blasónico de las familias nobles y notables italianas extintas y florecientes", del genealogista Giovan Battista di Crollalanza, publicado en Pisa en 1886. en tres tomos, de más de 1400 páginas.
