Antica Casata che ha lasciato le sue prime memorie in Faenza, dove, nel XVI secolo, era già pervenuta ad una certa autorità. Infatti Andrea Bernardoni fu degli Ambasciatori che Faenza inviò a Roma a porgere gli omaggi al nuovo Pontefice Paolo III. Nel 1539 lo stesso Andrea compare col titolo di Conte, concessogli dal Papa in occasione della sua ambasceria fra gli Anziani di Faenza e nello stesso anno era Priore degli Anziani, cioè godeva della prima Magistratura della città. Nel secolo XVII la Casata appare a Vignola e a Modena di condizione sociale elevata e stimabile. I Bernardoni hanno lasciato memorie in varie altre città dell'Emilia, nel Veneto e a Milano. Queste diramazioni furono illustrate da uomini di elevato ingegno, apprezzati nella giurisprudenza, nelle lettere e nelle arti e che attraverso le loro opere hanno reso immortale il loro nome.
