Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lombarda, originaria della città di Brescia e per questo un tempo conosciuta anche come Bresciani, stabilitasi in Cremona sul volgersi del secolo IX, in Bologna nel XV secolo, in Ferrara, e propagatasi, successivamente, in altre regioni d'Italia. Nel 1091 un Leonardo, già senatore della patria, fu dei decurioni, e dopo di lui altri sedici della sua famiglia conseguirono la stessa dignità. Bernardino fu creato Vescovo di Berito nel 1332 da Clemente VII. Franceschino fu capitano di Bernabò Visconti e si distinse per molto valore. Marsilio venne creato cavaliere aurato da Papa Urbano V. Marchesino fu decurione e capitano di Ugolino Cavalcabò e col suo valore riuscì a scacciare da Casalmaggiore i Ghibellini. Niccolò II fu dottore in ambe le leggi e prestò servigio presso il cardinale Vitelleschi, legato in Bologna, stabilendo la sua discendenza in quest'ultima città. Blasone della famiglia Bersani nobile in Emilia Romagna ricostruito da un disegno conservato presso la Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio di Bologna nell'opera "Il Blasone bolognese, cioè Arme gentilizie di famiglie bolognesi, nobili, cittadinesche e aggregate" di Floriano Canetoli realizzata tra il 1791 e il 1795.
