Família antiga e nobre de Emilia Romagna, com residência em Modena. Próspero foi professor de filosofia na Universidade de Pádua de 17089 a 1831 e deixou vários escritos filosóficos impressos. O historiador e pesquisador Gozzadini em seu "Delle Torri Gentilizie di Bologna, e das famílias nobres a que pertenciam", impresso em Bolonha em Zannichelli em 1875. Submetida às vicissitudes da época mais do que qualquer outra, era a família atual, que, como parte das partes revoltadas de Guelfe e Ghibelline, foi desastroso, como os outros como ela, que horas dentro, horas fora das cidades emilianas tiveram que comemorar, de acordo com os interesses que cooreore por essa parte, como será mostrado abaixo. Isso, de acordo com o costume antigo, chamava-se pelo nome do lugar, que, como a família Casati não estava em uso na época, as famílias daquele lugar foram nomeadas, de sua propriedade, como é o caso de muitas
