Family of ancient and noble tradition, originally from Tuscany, called Bertino or Bertini, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. It is believed that this cognominization, prior to the fifteenth century, derives from a modification of historical phonetics of a patronymy, derived from a progenitor named Bertinus, of which, unfortunately, there is no certain information. In the Protocols of Ser Gherardo Rossi, which are kept in the General Archive of Florence, we read that a Bertino was sent by the Florentine Republic, in 1313, as a Soldier of Garrison in Montecatini di Valdinievole, and this is the first reminder that we have of this Casato, who enjoyed the Priory three times, and the first time in 1346, with a Simone, son of the said Bertino.
