Antica famiglia siciliana, detta Bertolo o Bertollo, la quale discende dal dottore in ambo le leggi Pietro. Da costui e da Antonia Riggio pervennero Feliciano e Apollonia. Feliciano ottenne in Messina, a 3 agosto 1650, la laurea in ambo le leggi, fu ascritto nel 1661 come confrate nella venerabile e nobile Compagnia di S. Maria della Consolazione sotto il titolo della Pace di Palermo; con privilegio del 26 luglio 1676 venne nominato giudice delle Appellazioni di Palermo e testò a 7 maggio 1680 presso gli atti di notar Giuseppe Sardofontana di Palermo lasciando erede i suoi figli: Francesco, Antonia, Anna, Eleonora, Maria, Sigismonda e Girolamo. Francesco, primogenito di Feliciano, nacque in Palermo nell'anno 1665, si laureò in ambo le leggi in Catania in maggio dell'anno 1696, con privilegio del 3 agosto 1738 fu nominato giudice pretoriano di Palermo e con altro del 15 marzo 1742 assessore del Supremo Magistrato del
