Dice el canómigo Pedro Vitales que los caballeros de apellido B. descienden del linaje de Andrade, y explica el cambio de nombre de la siguiente manera: "Diego Núñez de Andrade, hijo de Nuño Freyre de Andrade, Señor de Puentedeume, Villalva y El Ferrol, fué castellano de la fortaleza de la villa de Betanzos (hoy ciudad), y casó con doña Ana de Vargas, y sus descendientes, atendiendo a la circunstancia de haber sido su progenitor Alcaide de los castillos de Betanzos, adoptaron este apellido, sustituyendo dal de Andrade." El primero que se apellidó B. fué Gonzalo Díaz de B., que contrajo matrimonio con doña María de las Marinas, de la que tuvo a Pedro González de B. y Nuño González de B. Sucesores de éstos radicaron en Úbeda (Jaén), y pasaron a Chile a fines del siglo XVI, dejando allí descendientes.
