Ancienne et illustre famille d'origine vénitienne, qui est passée résider à Tolentino au XVe siècle et s'est répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie, avec des colonies plus visibles dans le Latium, l'Émilie-Romagne et la Ligurie. L'origine de ce patronyme se trouve au pluriel du mot "bezzi", une monnaie utilisée à Venise, qui dérive à son tour du nom d'une monnaie suisse appelée "batze", en diminutif allemand d'"ours", puisque il avait gravé le dessin d'un ours en peluche. Les premiers registres officiels de la famille à Tolentino font référence à un Andrea de Bezzo, prieur dans l'art de la laine en 1463. La famille fut ensuite agrégée au patriciat de Tolentino en 1732, en la personne de Giovanni, par Giuseppe Felice. Giuseppe et Candido figurent dans la liste, aujourd'hui conservée dans les archives du SMOM, des familles qui ont exercé la charge de conseiller du 1er degré noble
