Famiglia antica oriunda di Pontestura, poi in Trino e Torino, con memorie sicure dal sec. XIII. Riporta Andrea Poleti illustre autore e stampatore di Venezia nella sua opera L'Italia Nobile nelle sue città e nè suoi Cavalieri figli delle medeme, i quali d'Anno in Anno sono stati insigniti della Croce di San Giovanni e di San Stefano, opera di Ludovico Araldi dedicata " Alli Nobilissimi Cavalieri delle suddette due Invittissime Religioni ", che la famiglia era originaria del Piemonte e della Lombardia. Le prime notizie della casata si hanno tra il XII e il XIII secolo. Georgio e Tuffino nel 1399 erano Cavalieri di San Giovanni. Ordine chiamato anche " Ordine ospitaliero di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme ", è uno dei più illustri e dei più celebri: la sua origine risale al tempo delle crociate, e le differenti fasi della sua travagliata esistenza sono di una grande importanza nella storia.
