Opizzone, vivente nel X secolo, sposò una nipote di Berengario re d'Italia, e Riprando di lui fratello ebbe dallo stesso re terre nel modenese e nel bolognese. Un Guido nel 1025 fu investito d'Ivrea. Ricchi ed assai potenti nel Monferrato e nel Canavese, i Biandrati seguirono la parte imperiale ed ebbero dall'Imperatore cariche supreme. Alberto II si distinse nelle Crociate, e poi fu console di Milano nel XI secolo. Ai tempi dell'Imperat. Federico I i Biandrati possedevano 37 castelli. Questa casa si divise in diversi rami stabiliti nel Vercellese, in Saluzzo, Cherasco, in Isvizzera e altrove; ma quello che sopratutti si distinse fu il ramo di San Giorgio, al quale appartiene quel Fra Benvenuto guerriero, oratore e cronista, di cui il Muratori pubblicò le storie del Monferrato.
