Della nobile famiglia si trovano le prime notizie con un Bartolomeo, cittadino di Cremona, nel 1390. Suo figlio Gasparino sposò Margherita Paternò nel 1904. Da lui nacque Giacomo, che fu notaro, e si trasfrì a Reggio circa nel 1460. Il figlio suo Gasparino continuò la famiglia in Reggio, mentre degli altri figli, Bernardino divenne frate di S. Francesco nel 1485; Pietro Antonio di Gasparino fu ascritto alla matricola dei drappieri, alla quale appartenevano in quei tempi persone delle più distinte e nobili famiglie reggiane. Essa ebbe pure in quel tempo parecchi religiosi.
