Ancient Umbrian family with residence in the city of Gubbio and Perugia. The aforementioned family was recognized the title of Coccorano counts. For over five centuries the counts of Coccorano, also lords of the fiefdoms of Biscina, Giomisa, Petroja, Peglio, Colalto, Valcodale and Mondoglio. They were among the most powerful feudal lords of the Eugubino countryside, and they always fought fiercely against the imperial and Ghibelline factions until the early 13th century, when, due to the complete triumph of their opponents, they had to abandon their homeland and take refuge in Perugia, in which city they later took on. Bigazzi's surname from a Bigazzino d'Ugoccione I who was among the most distinguished citizens of his time.
