Antica ed illustre famiglia, di chiara e provata nobiltà, detta Bisceglia o di Bisceglia, sulla quale, nella pregevolissima opera di Ferrante della Marra (1572-1643), ossia "Discorsi delle famiglie estinte, forastiere o non comprese ne' seggi di Napoli imparentate colla casa della Marra. Composti dal signor Ferrante della Marra duca della Guardia dati in luce da Camillo Tutini - In Napoli: Beltrano, Ottavio, 1641", abbiamo il privilegio ed il piacere di leggere: "Credeva io, che Francese senza dubbio fosse la Casa di Bisceglia, e che dalla Signoria di quella Cittá, posta in Terra di Bari, si fosse cognominata. Percioché Guglielmo cognominato Bisceglia, fu Capitan Generale delle genti di Ré Carlo I in Toscana alla venuta di Ré Corradino, con l'esercito del quale venuto a battaglia sotto Ponte a Valle rimase rotto, e valorosamente combattendo, in man de nemici prigione. Ma avendo poi ritrovato, che Stefano di Bisceglia fú uno di quarantasette
