Antichissimo e nobilissimo casato Siciliano da Palermo con rami familiari propagati, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Il primo di questa nobile famiglia palermitana di cui si abbia sicura notizia è un Ottavio Bisso, che nell’anno 1579 troviamo fra i cavalieri dell’ordine sovrano di Malta e che fondò in Palermo, insieme con Marco La Cava arcivescovo della stessa città, la venerabile e nobile compagnia di Santa Maria della Consolazione sotto il titolo della Pace, della quale fu nell’anno 1580 primo consigliere, nell’anno 1581 e per altre quattro volte sino all’anno 1600 governatore. Un Francesco ottenne con privilegio dato a 30 dicembre 1594 esecutoriato a 28 aprile 1595, per sé e suoi, la concessione del titolo di Don, fu deputato del regno, con privilegio dato a 8 luglio 1582 esecutoriato 9 settembre venne nominato Protomedico del regno di Sicilia, e a 5 gennaio 1592 maestro secreto del regno istesso.
