Le prove genealogiche di questa nobile famiglia non vanno oltre la metà del secolo XVII, ma si hanno però di essa notizie nel secolo precedente. Ottenne il titolo del cavalierato ereditario per ambo i sessi con decreto del duca di Modena 10 febbraio 1741 nella persona del nobile Giacinto di Antonio, avvocato della Camera ducale, ambasciatore estense in Germania (1725-1734) e a Napoli (1741-42), Rettore perpetuo dell'Università degli studi in Modena. Da un attestato inserito nel Libro dei privilegi del Comune di Modena, in data 10 aprile 1769, risulta che fin d'allora la famiglia era annoverata "inter primarias et nobiliores" della città ed ascritta al Libro d'oro, iscrizione questa confermata il 23 marzo 1816. Membri viventi: Antonio, di Rinaldo, di Antonio, di Rinaldo, di Antonio, nato il 2 ottobre 1855. Figli: Benedetto, nato 18 giugno 1888; Matilde, nata 20 ottobre 1891; Mario, nato 9 luglio 1894; Giovanni, nato 15 settembre
