La nobiltà data da Benedetto Le Borgne (nato a Chambery, 18 marzo 1751 e deceduto ivi, il 21 giugno 1830) che militando per la Russia e per la compagnia delle Indie ove assunse il cognome attuale e fine per il rajah di Moratta, ne ebbe da costui onori e ricchezze immense. Di che si valse a pro' della sua città nativa; onde Re Vittorio Emanuele I lo creò conte per Patenti, 7 giugno 1816 e gli conferì il grado di tenente generale. Fu sua seconda moglie quell'Anna Adelaide d'Osmund che lasciò scritte le vicende sue e dei suoi tempi nei gustosi Memoires d'une tante. La discendenza continuò la bella tradizione paterna e nel 1861, con decreto del 27 luglio, Ottavio di Carlo, di Benedetto; della linea secondogenita veniva creato conte; come già con Patenti 14 febbraio 1826 era stato creato barone.
